  1. The Council of Nicaea in 325 decreed that Easter should be observed on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox (March 21). Well, were are close. Despite its significance as a Christian holy day, many of the traditions and symbols that play a key role in Easter observances actually have roots in pagan celebration, particularly the pagan goddess Eostre ( her symbol as a hare). Although the roots for the hiding of eggs are not totally clear, it is widely believed that egg hunts date back to the 1700s, when the Pennsylvania Dutch believed in an egg-laying hare called “Oschter Haws” Legend has it that the Easter Bunny lays, decorates and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life, a new beginning.
