Day 170
Today, we, my daughter, my grand daughter and niece, headed out on an adventure to The Ancient Forest. Which is approx. 111 km from Prince George.
We walked among cedar trees that are over one thousand years old. All I can say is seeing is believing. Sometimes you just need to enjoy nature without looking through a camera view finder! You can spend hours in the forest, exploring, looking, taking pictures...but the mosquitoes keep you moving!
There are over 2.3 km of trails in The Ancient Forest. I wonder how many km the toddler put on as she chased her mom, cousin and grandmother?
We are very lucky to be able to enjoy this Ancient Rain Forest.
you can Google Ancient Forest Prince George BC and research!
Thank you for taking a peek at today's many photos! We had a wonderful day!
See you soon!
Jewels
"Its impossible to walk in the woods and be in a bad mood at the same time."
The Ancient Forest is located 111 (ish) km east of Prince George off Highway 16, in one of the upper Fraser River Valley’s few remaining antique stands of western red cedar. These stands include cedar that are more than 1,000 years old in an area farther from an ocean than any other inland temperate rainforest in the world. The indigenous people use the red cedar’s rot resistant wood for graceful dugout canoes to travel the coastal waters, massive posts and beams houses, steam bent boxes for storage, totems to declare linage and masks for celebration and dance. The inner bark was used to weave everything from baskets to weather resistant clothing. As compared to Europe that protect old growth forests, BC has trees as old as 2000 years and little protection from the industrial onslaught. Our ancient forest was almost a casualty of this fate.
