"Keep your friends close and your farmer closer"
There are lots of reason is to shop locally for your food and wares. Above all it is a way to promote and nurture the locally owned businesses while encouraging a healthy community. In doing so you shift the power from distant corporate entities to the local community. Local businesses are owned and operated by your neighbors! Local businesses are more accountable to their local communities and donate more money to non-profits. Supporting local businesses is good for the environment because they often have a smaller carbon footprint than larger companies. The number one perk to consider is that supporting local means that you care about the community that you live in.
