Reflection

Day 59

Reflection and I bet you are thinking that I will be taking a photo using a mirror, or a reflection near a water source. I will be doing that but, not today.

My baby, my car is in the shop... (lets hope its an easy fix) computers on these new modern vehicles is suppose to make life easier!

With that in mind, I planned a walk to Wilson Park. It is 5/10 min walk from home. It is great exercise, fresh air to clear out those winter cobwebs. The view/scenery is always changing with the seasons is gorgeous. You may even find an owl, eagle, ducks, geese, fox, or even a moose in your wanderings on the paths. Being on your own on this walk is a great time to reflect on ones life, plans, goals or future.

Some  of my rambling thoughts from today's walk!
  • don't slip on the ice even though I am wearing cleats
  • cost of fixing my car
  • what shall we have for dinner
  • I hope I do not step in doggie do-do
  • don't slip
  • I think it is going to snow
  • wow the park is quiet, YES!
  • thinking about my children and grand kids
  • friends, how are they doing
  • family, ah yes family
  • my love, looking forward to the weekend, Wine Time!
  • will winter end?  I do want to snow shoe a few more times!
  • plans for the weekend, snow shoeing??!!
  • my blog, what shall I write about
  • I hope I get at least one good photo
  • coffee time
  • do we need to shovel snow tonight?
Some of my rambling thoughts, and not necessarily in that order!

Ducks together

Cobwebs are cleared, photos have been downloaded. I do have a few cool pictures. My baby, the car is home.  Coffee in hand and dinner has been decided.

Thank you for taking a look at my photos and reading my blog! :)

See you tomorrow!!

Favorite Candy

Day 58

Even though Valentines Day has come and gone, we still have Easter, Mothers Day and Birthdays in the very near future. Those are great times to give and receive candy and oh yes chocolate too!

The burning question of the day is... What is your Favorite Candy?

As you all know, I love chocolate of every kind. But, if someone is to treat me to a bag of Fuzzy Peach Candy... they would be my friend for life!!
I love the sugar, the shape, the colors and the zingy peach flavor!

My Favorite Candy ~ Fuzzy Peach~

So! What is your favorite candy? I do want to know, maybe I can do another candy photo shoot!

Thank you for stopping in!

Photo Tip: Taking a Falling Snow Photo

Day 57

How are you handling all of my Snow and Ice photographs? Well, here is another one!
It is snowing (no surprise here!). I wanted to try and capture the snow as it is falling.
My camera I call 'Edie' was set on 'P' and the ISO on 640 were set on an earlier photo shoot. I read somewhere to try and use your flash when the snow is falling.
I turned on my flash and gave it a try in my own back yard, as well as pointing the camera towards the neighbors trees! I like the effect! I will defiantly give this a try again when it snows! (it has stopped snowing, for now!)

(Like rain, my camera does not like it when it snows. Might need to find a plastic cover for her)

Shot from the left side
It does look like a blizzard out there! These trees were further away, I could of put on my boots and walked down the street to get a bit closer.

The back yard

I like this one, the snow on the ground looks soft and inviting for someone to make snow angels. The flash highlighted the snow flakes as they are floating down from the clouds.

Trees to the right

I am thinking of taking a walk on a day through one of our nature trails, when it is snowing.... and giving this tip another try... It might make a fabulous Christmas Card!

Thank you for taking a look! You can always share your thoughts!

See you very very soon!

Message to Me

Day 56

While I have been on this photographic journey (my 366 day photo challenge) I have been spending a lot of time worrying about what everyone else is doing re: photography. I see them walking about the same parks and locations in town, and I wonder, "Is their photo better than mine"? Will they do a better job in the editing process?  Will they get more likes?

While on my walk today, I came to realize that I will not stop taking photos! I will continue to learn about my camera. I will continue to discover/learn while trying new ideas and having fun too! I will tune out the world, focus and try that shot!

If I have created any any reaction while you are looking at my photos; from that WOW reaction, to COOL, Great Shot to MEH! Then I have created an emotion and my goal has been achieved.

Plus, I do know that the only person who needs to like this photograph is ME!

So here it is.... MY photo for today...

Something Old

Day 55

Something Old; The first thing I thought of was a few old coins I have in my collection.
I started to collect coins when I found King George coins and some actual silver Canadian coins in my change purse. That is when I started checking out my change on a regular bases.

I think for me, finding these coins, makes me wonder who owned these coins before me.. How and when did they arrive into Canada... What is the story behind these 2 pennies?

Of course like everyone else, we are all hoping to find that one item that is worth money, a treasure to make us rich and something that may be part of your children or grand children's inheritance.

Something Old ~ Coins ~

I think a true collector would know all the details of these American pennies.
Why is one of the pennies not made of copper like the top one?
Someday, I will have the answers.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my photo and read my blog!

Something New

Day 54

My birthday is slowly approaching, and I was asked that dreaded question! (for me is a toughie to find an answer!)

Yesterday, while we were out treking in the outdoors, and sinking to our knees in snow! I found the answer to that yearly question. What do I want for my birthday?

Snowshoes for the both of us!!

Yes, my B-day is 14 days away! I didn't mind getting my gift early!

Today we tried out our New Snow shoes!!
We decided to explore a nearby park. After figuring out how to put these things on our feet. We went up hill, down hill, through the trees! While listened to the birds, introducing ourselves a local snow man! We had the park to ourselves! It was amazing!

Looking

Day 53

What do you see when you go out for a walk?
Are you focused on the path/trail ahead?
Do you see beyond the path?
Are you looking up, down, under?
Do you just prefer to enjoy the day in the sunshine admiring the scenery?
Do you prefer to walk alone in your own thoughts or with a walking partner?
Are you careful when walking that you do not step on Doggie do-do?

A  beautiful sunny morning walk at McMillan Fish Park, in Prince George. I would like to come back and take a look in the spring! It looks like an inviting spot to fish with a picnic lunch or just a coffee to relax and to reflect.

Bare Trees

Day 52

In about a month, give or take a day or two...we will be celebrating the first day of spring!
Right now the branches on the trees are bare. Buds are starting to form and in no time at all the trees and bushes will be bursting with blossoms, and green leaves!

While we wait patiently for spring,  we walk the trails, we check the progress of the arrival of spring, and if we get the chance we watch the wild life!

Yesterday, I had said I didn't see any wild life just their footprints and tracks. Today, was a different story!

Shadows

Day 51

The snow is cold, crisp, white and sparkles in the sunlight. The morning sun creates a blue shadow on the snow.

As I walk through the park, I see many footsteps, and not just from us humans. I see many species of birds, rabbits, squirrels and few other tracks I cannot name.
There are many deer tracks that cross my path as I walk along the many trails of the park. I wonder where they are hiding? I try and walk quietly to see if they are around the next bend, my camera ready for that one great photo!
Instead I find very friendly dogs out walking their humans! There is always time to stop to say hello and chat.
With some tracks I do wonder if it is a dog or could it be a coyote or a fox.
There are many fox photos posted on Face Book.  Today the local photographers have posted photos of ducks! I have not seen any type of animal today. But I have seen their tracks!

In the shadows, there are tracks.... they tell their own story... The Ending to the story, we can only guess.

Mirror Self Portrait

Day 50

Child of my child,
Heart of my heart.
The years between us
I am young again discovering
The world through your eyes.
You have time to listen,
and I have time to spend.
Delighted to gaze at familiar
Loved features made new in you again.
Through you I see the future,
Through me you'll see the past.
In the present, we'll love one another
As long as these moments last

One photo B&W and One in Color (# 2 )

Day 49

It is wonderful owning a DSLR Camera, you can see the photos you have taken immediately. Not like back in the 'Day', with film cameras you had to wait... and ... wait! Or develop your own film.
All those pictures taken during Christmas, birthdays on family vacations and those amazing landscapes, were all taken with Black and White film before the introduction of color film.

Now today you have a choice, you can take that photo in B & W, or edit them into Black and White in Light Room/Photo Shop, like I did today.

Photo and Poem to match

Day 48

These tiny winged creatures
flit from tree to tree.
With a fee-fee-fee
they are called the Chickadee.

Perched high in a tree
or upon my knee.
With a fee-fee-fee
They take a seed from me

With the wings spread high
They take to the sky.
With a fee-fee-fee
My friendly Chickadee.

E for Edits

Day 47

A great many photographers and I am one who downloads their photos to an editing format such as Light room or Photo shop.
My edits are pretty basic, since this is a new tool for me, I am learning.

For me its a learn as you go with lots and lots of experimenting! For most of my edits I like to keep the photo as natural and real as possible... how I see  the world through my eyes!

When I post and share my photos, I am always hoping that the viewer will like what they see. I do hope my photographs creates an emotion, a feeling or a thought.

Today, I am playing with edits, not just with Light room, but with my cell phone.

I did take the photo with my canon camera, after a few minor edits in light room I sent it via email to my cell phone. Then had some fun!

Fairy Land, photo edited in Light Room

Fairy Land, photo edited with a cell phone app

Photography is an art form on many levels as well as editing!  It is all part of expression for the photographer/Artist!

I like the second photo, because I can use that as part of an illustration in a story I am working on called " The Collector Elf"

Thank you for taking a look at today's photo and blog!

Mr PG Dolittle!

Day 46

I thought I would have a little fun!

There was this curious squirrel feeding and filling is face from the bird feeder. He loves to sit on the roof, or hang upside down while eating the seeds!
The chickadees, complain, but, they wait their turn at the feeder. They do have manners.

Mr. PG (our town's mascot) decided he would like to feed the birds and yes the  squirrel too!

Mr. PG, sat on the ledge patiently waiting... the squirrel was first to arrive, he could smell the seeds..but was not sure about Mr. PG... and stayed far far away from him, watching Mr. PG with one eye  while he ate the seeds that had fallen on the deck.

The chickadees were not afraid, the flew down in turn introducing themselves, eating the seeds and chatting with the other birds who were all waiting for their turn. Mr Squirrel in the meanwhile sat up in the nearby tree and watched the birds. When the birds were done eating, they flew off. That is when the squirrel came down, checked out Mr. PG, for himself and decided he was harmless and the seeds were a nice offering in friendship!

Nice to meet you
Thank you, I don't mind if I do!

One Little Water Drop

Day 43

The past couple of days, the temperatures have warmed up and things are starting to melt. That means,  the snow is melting and water is dripping!

I was in the kitchen making breakfast, I could see the water dripping off the gazebo roof!

So,here is the visual in your minds eye! I am in my bathrobe and slippers, camera in hand ( using my 75-300mm lens set on high speed continuous) snapping off 200 or more shots as the water drips down!
I wonder what the next door neighbors thought when I shouted, ' GOT ONE ' !!
