Love Apples aka Tomatoes

Day 269

Love Apples, yes that is what they are called by the French (pomme d'amour) or the love apple. Many years ago the French thought that the tomato had aphrodisiac properties.

While eating tomatoes have many great benefits, eating too many may give you problems. One of those is acid reflux.

Love Apples Aka Tomatoes

I decided to harvest my tomatoes. I have a fear that frost will do harm to my plants.  The green ones will be stored to ripen in the house.

There are some great recipes for green tomatoes such as: Fried Green Tomatoes  green tomato salsa, green tomato relish.

We guesstimated that we picked about 25 pounds of tomatoes from 4 plants.

I think tonight's dinner will be hamburgers on the BBQ with a slice of fresh home grown tomatoes!

I will see you next time!

  1. Tomatoes are the major dietary source of the antioxidant lycopene, which has been linked to many health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. They are also a great source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin K. Tomatoes also help the synthesis of good cholesterol and reduces the production of bad cholesterol. Fried green tomatoes are not a Southern dish, despite the movie of the same name, but originated in the Midwest and northeast, possibly linked to the cuisine of Jewish immigrants. They are a popular side dish found in the Southern United States, made from unripe green tomatoes coated with cornmeal and fried.
