Handmade Gift

Day 336

I always think that receiving a handcrafted, handmade, home baked gifts always came from the heart.

I think one of my favorite home crafted gifts I received was the colouring book my children had made for me. They drew the pages for me to colour, they stapled the pages together and it even came crayons. This book was placed in a box and it was gift wrapped! I will always remember the look on those 5 faces as I opened this gift!

  1. We, as a society, have devalued craftmanship. What appears to be of value is efficiency, resulting in the devaluing of our own dignity. That is the thing with handmade items, they still have the person's mark on them, and when you hold them, you feel less alone. Because we rely on efficiencies there is less pleasure in machine made items, our lives become dreary rather than rich. It has always been a pleasure and a privilege for me to pause to look at handiwork, to see beauty amidst utility, and to know that craft traditions begun so long ago serve us today. And while giving these handcrafts is great all year round, we especially turn our attention to this time of year and the attention to love for the receiver.
