Water

Day 150

Prince George is situated between 2 rivers, the Nechako and the Fraser Rivers. Right now these rivers and a few others are swollen with water. The snow in the mountains has been melting and filling the rivers, creeks, streams and lakes.
Right now a few of the trails at Cottonwood Island Park have been closed due to flooding.

Water ~ Spring Run Off

In the foreground is the Nechako River, just before it connects with the Fraser River. I am standing on a bridge that goes over a small slow creek/pond that joins the river.
In the winter I took a photo of the bridge standing on the frozen river. When the water recedes I hope to be able to walk along the shores of the river and get a photo of the bridge.

Until tomorrow!

  1. There are some things that do not change throughout history, and one example is that civilizations develop around rivers. The first great civilizations, such as those in Mesopotamia and Egypt, all grew up in river valleys. A river gives the inhabitants a reliable source of water for drinking and irrigation for agriculture. Additional benefits include fishing, fertile soil due to annual flooding, and the ease of transportation for hunting and fishing. Even these ideal spots there are disadvantages as we are experiencing currently in our community, the rise of the rivers beyond the natural banks causing flood damage and soil erosion. During the winter there is the risk of ice dams. Ahh the beauty of living near a river no matter the season.
